Today’s Brain Fart: “Not Today, Josephine!”

My Gran always says this when she doesn’t want to do something! Or when something isn’t quite working right at the moment.

She’s an amazingly kind and generous woman - a total legend! And my sister, Kerys, and I have always loved her sayings (we must write a book on them!).

Another of her sayings, which I love is: “And the band left the station played the train, tweet tweet!” (yes, you read the right!). And don’t ask me, I have absolutely no idea what it means, but it’s hilarious!!!

How often do you do things in your life that you don’t want to?

Or things that you really shouldn’t be doing, because you’re no good at them?

The same is true is business. How many hours do you waste on tasks, meetings and other activities that you really shouldn’t be doing?

There will always be things that you don’t want to do. However, there are some tasks that you can, and perhaps should, outsource! Book-keeping, website design, cleaning and IT services to name a few.

Yes, there will be a monetary cost attached to outsourcing these. However, there is already a big cost to these at present: your time!

If you spend an hour cleaning the office, you’ve lost an hour working on your business - 60 minutes you could be working with clients and getting paid for! Surely it’s better to hire someone who is potentially better than you at a specific task?

And isn’t it worth paying someone, say £9 an hour, to clean the office or house for you, so that you get back an extra hour that you can do billable work for? Or so that you can have an extra hour to spend with your family?

What things are you going to say, “Not today, Josephine! [or Joseph!]” to?!...

P.S. Sorry to disappoint but my Gran is a wee bit camera shy so that is not really a picture of her!
